IN HER PLACE

This project is inspired by the work of photographer Francesca Woodman. Like Woodman, I am interested in the boundaries between body and site – how we interact with our surroundings, how we inhabit space. This is an interrogation of self as well as situation, an attempt to access new ways of understanding the complexities of the body/site relationship, a (re)view of the psychologies of space.

The square Polaroid with its distinctive white border seems appropriate for this project and the use of colour a fitting contrast to the B&W of Woodman’s work. These choices are not merely aesthetic however but a conscious nod to Woodman: the temporal quality of the Polaroid, the intimate scale of the photographs and the placement of image on paper (a composition format used by Woodman).
